Register a desktop and create an enrollment token

Name a desktop in the console before its machine connects, then make the one-time token its installer needs.

A machine joins your portal by enrolling: its installer presents a one-time token, and the portal gives the machine a credential of its own. After that the token is spent and the machine signs in with its credential.

There are two ways to make a token. Registering the desktop first is the better one, because the desktop then arrives in the right tenant under the name people will look for.

  1. In the console, open Desktops and choose Register a desktop.
  2. Fill in:
    • Tenant: the organization the desktop belongs to.
    • Name: what everybody sees, its owner included. You can change it later.
    • Connects with: Billet, or Amazon DCV for a DCV desktop.
    • DCV server address: for an Amazon DCV desktop only, the address your DCV Connection Gateway reaches the machine at.
  3. Press Register desktop. You land on the desktop's page.
  4. Choose Enroll a machine as this desktop..., then Create token.
  5. Copy the token now. It is shown once. Only a hash of it is kept, so a lost token cannot be recovered: make another.

The page says which tenant the token enrolls into and when it expires.

The desktop reads Never checked in until its machine enrolls, then Idle.

Make a token from the Enrollment page

  1. In the console, open Deployment, then Enrollment, and choose Create an enrollment token.
  2. Choose It enrolls: A desktop.
  3. Choose Into: the tenant.
  4. Optionally give it a Label, a note for whoever reads the list later about which machine it was for.
  5. Press Create token, and copy the token. It is shown once.

Tokens not used yet lists every token that has not been spent. Revoke one you no longer need.

Rebuilding or replacing a machine

To put a new or rebuilt machine in place of an existing desktop, open that desktop's page and use Enroll a machine as this desktop... again. A machine enrolled with that token becomes the same desktop and keeps who it is assigned to.
